Curriculum Intent
Hale CE Primary School- Curriculum Intent |
Our vision is founded on Matthew 5: 14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16) |
Our Curriculum Long Term Plan sets out what pupils will learn, when they will learn it and how learning will build progressively over time. It ensures that:
The curriculum has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the needs of our pupils, the context of our community and our school values, while remaining outward‑facing and aspirational. Our curriculum builds progressive core knowledge and key curriculum concepts, using a carefully planned range of learning skills and subject‑specific skills. Learning is sequenced so that pupils develop secure understanding over time, enabling them to recall and describe knowledge confidently, and to apply this understanding in familiar, unfamiliar, local and global contexts. Through this approach, pupils make meaningful connections across their learning and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. Our curriculum aims to:
These aims underpin all curriculum design decisions and are reflected consistently across subjects and year groups |
Be Ready | Be Respectful | Be Responsible |

Our long‑term curriculum plan is closely aligned with our Personal Development Pathway, ensuring that pupils develop:
Opportunities such as worship, pupil leadership roles, performances, sporting events, musical experiences and curriculum enrichment are woven into the long‑term plan to support pupils’ holistic development. Reading is central to our curriculum approach at Hale CE Primary School and underpins learning across all subjects. We recognise reading as the gateway to knowledge, language development and cultural understanding, and therefore prioritise high‑quality reading experiences throughout the curriculum. Pupils are regularly exposed to a wide range of carefully chosen texts that enrich vocabulary, develop comprehension and deepen subject understanding. Reading is used purposefully to support learning in all areas of the curriculum, enabling pupils to access complex ideas, make connections and engage critically with new knowledge. Alongside explicit reading instruction, we actively promote reading for pleasure, fostering a lifelong love of books and ensuring that pupils develop the confidence, fluency and stamina needed to succeed academically and beyond. |
Impact | Through our Curriculum Long Term Plan, pupils:
Curriculum impact is monitored through pupil outcomes, work scrutiny, pupil voice, staff reflection and external validation, ensuring continuous evaluation and refinement. |
