Computing
Hale CE Primary School- Curriculum Design- Computing |
Our vision is founded on Matthew 5: 14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16) |
At Hale CE Primary School, we recognise that Computing plays a vital role in preparing children to participate safely, confidently and responsibly in a rapidly evolving digital world. Through a bespoke Computing curriculum, developed using the Knowsley Scheme of Work for Computing, we inspire pupils to “Be the Light” by becoming digitally literate, creative and resilient users of technology. Our curriculum equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to use technology purposefully, think computationally, and engage positively with digital systems in everyday life and future learning. |
Be Ready | Be Respectful | Be Responsible |
A Computing curriculum that equips pupils with essential digital skills and computational thinking. Pupils progressively develop knowledge and understanding across computer science, information technology and digital literacy, enabling them to use technology creatively, solve problems and apply skills across the wider curriculum. Clear progression ensures pupils are well prepared for the increasing demands of technology and future learning | A Computing curriculum that promotes respectful and responsible digital behaviour. Online safety is a key priority, with pupils taught how to use technology safely, recognise potential risks, and understand how to report concerns. Pupils also learn to communicate respectfully online, collaborate with others and evaluate digital content thoughtfully. | A Computing curriculum that encourages pupils to take responsibility for their digital actions and learning choices. Pupils develop an understanding of digital footprints, data protection and appropriate online conduct. Through reflective evaluation of their work, children learn to improve digital outcomes, manage information effectively and use technology as a tool for positive impact. |
Curriculum Approach | Computing at Hale CE Primary School is delivered through a bespoke, carefully sequenced curriculum based on the Knowsley Scheme of Work for Computing, which provides structured progression from Reception through to Year 6. The scheme ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum and supports consistency in teaching and learning across year groups. The curriculum is organised around the three core strands of Computing:
Pupils revisit key concepts regularly, allowing learning to build progressively and securely over time. A variety of engaging and creative activities are used, including robotics, coding platforms, digital storytelling, multimedia creation and data handling. Lessons are designed to support collaboration, problem solving and creativity while ensuring that all pupils, including those with additional needs, can access and succeed within Computing. Online safety is woven throughout the curriculum and revisited regularly, ensuring pupils understand how to keep themselves and others safe when using technology at school and beyond. Teachers adapt learning tasks to suit the needs of their pupils while maintaining high expectations for digital competence. |
Impact | The impact of our Computing curriculum is measured through a range of qualitative and practical outcomes, including:
By the time pupils leave Hale CE Primary School, they are confident, responsible and creative users of technology. They are able to apply Computing skills across the curriculum, work collaboratively using digital tools, and navigate the digital world safely and respectfully. Pupils are well prepared for the next stage of education and for life in an increasingly digital society. |
