Reception 2021 - 2022
Welcome to Reception Class
Mrs Ford & Mrs Renton
We hope your children have a wonderful time in Reception! Here is some information that we hope you will find useful.
- Children should come to school wearing their PE on Thursday's
- Children should bring a water bottle containing only fresh water
- Snack is £2 per week
- Tapestry is used to share information, learning and messages between school and families
For the first couple of weeks children will be given a story sack and then picture books to share at home. Once children have an understanding of letter corrospondence and are able to segment and blend words children will be given a phonics reading book (these are indicated by 'letters and sounds' being written in the top right corner of the book) and a scheme book of their choice which they will need help to read. We will change the phonics books every Monday and Thursday and the scheme book will be changed once on a Monday.
We aim to read with all children at least once per week but expect them to read a few pages every night at home.to an adult. Please record when your child has read to you in their reading record.
Please make sure your child brings in their reading record and reading books to school everyday. Do not put water bottles inside your child's book bags.
Phonics is taught daily in Reception. More information can be found on the Phonics and Early Reading page. The children's reading books directly link to the phonics sounds the children know.
Take a look at some of the fun things we have been getting up to!
Autumn 1 - Our key text is The Gingerbread Man by Mara Alperin
The Gingerbread Man visited our classroom and left some treats for us to enjoy. We also found a video of The Gingerman Man and his family dancing in our Reading Garden!!
The children worked together to follow a set of instructions to make ginger moonsand.
Check us out on Twitter @hale_school for regular updates about what we get up to!
