Our EYFS Vision

We aim to nurture confident, curious and compassionate learners from their very first experiences of school.

We will:

  • Celebrate each child as a unique individual, helping them to feel valued, safe and part of our school family.
  • Inspire a love of learning through play, exploration and meaningful first-hand experiences.
  • Support children’s personal, social and emotional development, encouraging kindness, resilience and respect for others in line with our Christian values.
  • Develop confident communicators who can express their ideas, needs and feelings.
  • Enable children to become independent learners who show curiosity, perseverance and pride in their achievements.

In EYFS, we provide a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment where children are supported to grow academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, laying strong foundations for their future learning and enabling every child to shine.

We hope your children have a wonderful time in Reception! Here is some information that we hope you will find useful.

  • Children should bring a water bottle containing only fresh water
  • Seesaw is used to share information, learning and messages between school and families
  • Snack, fresh fruit and milk is offered each day

Reading:

After the initial baseline assessments have been competed the children will begin to bring picture books home to share and discuss. Once children have an understanding of letter correspondence and are able to segment and blend words then they will be given a phonics reading book and a reading for pleasure book of their choice. We will change the phonics books every Friday.

We will listen to the children read three times a week during Reading Practise Sessions but expect them to read a few pages every night at home to an adult before completing their Reading Journal task (more information on the inside cover of the journal)

Please make sure your child brings their reading bag back to school each Wednesday. Do not put water bottles inside your child's book bags.

Phonics:

We use Little Wandle Phonics scheme which is taught daily in Reception. More information can be found on the Phonics and Early Reading page. The children's reading books directly link to the phonics sounds the children know.

Forest School:

Forest School sessions will take place each week. Children should wear their PE kits each Thursday and must bring a pair of wellies and some spare socks.

Check Seesaw for regular updates and photographs.
